**Pinterest integration** · image & video pins

# Turn Shopify products into Pinterest pins on a schedule

Pinterest behaves more like a search engine than a feed, which makes it unusually kind to product catalogs. AutoPost creates image and video pins on the board you choose, each one linking straight back to the product page.

- ****Boards**** — choose the destination board

- ****Image + video**** — both pin types

- ****800**** — characters of description

- ****Link**** — every pin points at the product

Post types

## What AutoPost publishes here

The post type follows the media on your product, so you do not have to choose per post.

| Type | Built from | Good for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Image pin** | A product image | Evergreen catalog content that keeps being found in search |
| **Video pin** | A product video | Standing out in the feed and demonstrating use |
| **Destination link** | The `{PRODUCT_URL}` variable | Traffic that lands on the product, not the homepage |

Permissions

## Which permissions we request, and why

These are the scopes the authorisation screen will show you. AutoPost asks for nothing beyond them.

| Scope | What it allows | Why AutoPost needs it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **`user_accounts:read`** | Read the basic details of the authorised account. | To show which Pinterest account is connected in the app. |
| **`boards:read`** | List the boards on the account. | So you can choose which board a pin is created on. |
| **`boards:write`** | Create and modify boards. | To support publishing into the board you selected and keeping that target valid. |
| **`pins:read`** | Read pins created on the account. | To confirm a pin was created and show its state and link back in the app. |
| **`pins:write`** | Create pins. | The core function: publishing the scheduled pin. |

### Requirements and limits

- **Account type**: Pinterest business account
- **Board**: At least one board; selected per connection in the app
- **Description**: Up to 800 characters — shorter than the other networks
- **Media**: Product images and video, converted to a pin-friendly format
- **Link**: Each pin links to the product page it was built from

### Worth knowing

- Descriptions are capped at 800 characters, so a TikTok-length caption will not fit — write a Pinterest template
- Search-oriented, descriptive wording works better here than a punchy hook
- Pins keep attracting clicks months after publication, which makes evergreen catalog automations especially worthwhile
- If the selected board is removed or its permissions change, AutoPost reports it instead of failing silently

Setup

## Connecting takes about two minutes

### Open Accounts in AutoPost

Go to **Accounts** and find the Pinterest card.

### Connect the business account

Authorise on Pinterest's own screen. A personal account has to be converted to a business account first — Pinterest offers that for free.

### Select a board

AutoPost lists your boards. Choose the destination; refresh the list if you create a new board later.

### Add Pinterest to an automation

Tick **Pinterest** as a target, choose a template — keep it under 800 characters — and set the schedule.

### Review the pins

Published pins appear in the **Posts** list with their link. Board access errors are reported clearly if a board is deleted or permissions change.

Questions

## About this integration

**Do I need a business account?**

Yes. Pinterest's publishing API is only available to business accounts. Converting a personal account is free and takes a couple of minutes in Pinterest's settings.

**Can I pin to different boards from different automations?**

The board is chosen per connection. To publish to several boards, use separate automations and switch the target board, or connect the account again for the other board.

**Why is the description limit lower than elsewhere?**

Because Pinterest's own limit is lower. AutoPost enforces 800 characters so a pin is never truncated after publishing.

**Are video pins supported?**

Yes. If the product has a video, AutoPost uploads it as a video pin; otherwise it creates an image pin.

**Data and controls**

AutoPost stores the encrypted authorisation tokens, the account identifier and the profile details shown in the app, plus the posts you scheduled and their results. Disconnect the account in AutoPost, or revoke access on the platform, and the tokens are deleted. See the [Privacy Policy](https://autopostbyamasty.com/privacy.html) and [data deletion](https://autopostbyamasty.com/data-deletion.html) pages.
